ARLINGTON, Va. — Today, Todd Abrajano, President and CEO of the United States Nuclear Industry Council (USNIC), submitted a letter for the record to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in connection with its hearing to examine the Department of Energy’s implementation of President Trump’s May 2025 nuclear energy executive orders.
The letter highlights the critical role of President Trump's nuclear energy Executive Orders in supporting the deployment of advanced reactors and strengthening the U.S. nuclear industrial base. It emphasizes early actions by the Department of Energy and calls for continued focus on efficient licensing, fuel cycle readiness, and policies that provide the certainty needed to drive private-sector investment.
"These Executive Orders represent an important step toward strengthening U.S. leadership in nuclear energy at a time when global demand for reliable, carbon-free electricity is skyrocketing. ...The success of these Executive Orders will ultimately be measured by tangible results: reactors under construction, strengthened domestic supply chains, and a policy and regulatory environment that supports repeatable, cost-effective deployment," Abrajano wrote. "USNIC remains committed to working with the White House, the National Energy Dominance Council, the Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Congress, and other stakeholders to help ensure these efforts translate into meaningful progress for the U.S. advanced nuclear energy sector."
