ARLINGTON, Va. — The United States Nuclear Industry Council (USNIC) Board of Directors has reelected Jeffrey Merrifield as Chairman and confirmed the organization’s executive leadership team for the coming term.

Merrifield, who serves as Partner and Chair of the Energy Practice at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and is a former Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will continue to lead the Board as USNIC advances its mission to support the growth and global competitiveness of the U.S. advanced nuclear industry.

In addition to reelecting Merrifield as Chairman, the USNIC Board voted to confirm the following executive leadership positions:

  • Vice Chairman: Ron Faibish, Senior Director of Strategic Development, Nuclear Technologies and Materials, General Atomics (continuing)
  • Secretary: Mary Neumayr, Director of Government Affairs, Urenco USA Inc. (continuing)
  • Treasurer: Keyes Niemer, Senior Vice President, Global Nuclear, Worley (newly elected)
  • Governance Committee Chair: Scott Kopple, Vice President of Government Relations, BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) (continuing)

“The growing interest and investment in nuclear power—in the United States and abroad—underscores the vital role this industry will play in delivering reliable, clean energy for decades to come,” said Merrifield. “Having spent my career working to advance nuclear innovation and a strong regulatory framework to govern it, I am honored to continue serving as Chairman of USNIC and to support the deployment of next-generation technologies that will strengthen U.S. leadership in the global nuclear marketplace.”

“The U.S. nuclear industry is entering a period of significant growth, and Jeff’s continued leadership as Chairman reflects the confidence our Board has in the direction of the organization,” Todd Abrajano, President and CEO of USNIC, said. “As our membership and engagement expand, USNIC will continue to convene the organizations and leaders shaping the future of the U.S. nuclear industry and accelerating the deployment of next-generation nuclear technologies.”
